What to wear for a Family Photography Session?

Every time someone books with me, this is the standard question asked. As such, I thought I might share some tips of what you could wear for your Family Photography Session.
Think about where your images will be displayed: Do you like bold colours or is your home more neutral? Choose your wardrobe to match and then you can ensure your images match your decor.
Try not to wear all black or all white: In some lighting, especially outdoor shoots, details can be lost in white and black clothing. Green can also make you get lost in a bluebell shoot or a corn field. As you can see from the photo, I didn't follow my own rules when taking my daughter for a shoot - however, as we were by the sea she managed to stand out against the blues, greens and stormy skies.
Coordinate but don’t match: Keep away from denim on denim or everyone wearing jeans and a white shirt. Mix up the colours of the tops or shirts a bit to add a bit of individuality.
Limit bold prints and patterns: You are the focus of this shoot not the pattern you are wearing. The same can be said of you kids…
Avoid characters: This shoot is about you and your children, not Elsa and Anna! Nothing will date your images more than a character tee shirt.
Think timeless: We all remember the hair and fashion of the 80’s. Ensure you are wearing more classics than fashion. These images will be in your home for a long time. A classic wardrobe will mean they are timeless and don’t date.
Don’t forget to accessorise: Accessories add texture and depth to your images and a change of accessories can mean a totally different look! A bright scarf can be used to break up a block colour but also can complement the background if outdoors.
I hope this has helped. Contact me if you want to book a family shoot.
